Iraq bombs strike football fans
Two bomb attacks have killed at least 50 people and injured 135 in Baghdad as crowds celebrated the Iraqi national football team's win over South Korea. The first strike killed 30 people in the Mansour district, where fans were marking Iraq's victory, which takes the side into the final of the Asian Cup.

Loose Change Producer Korey Rowe Arrested
Loose Change producer and Iraq and Afghanistan veteran Korey Rowe has been arrested and handed over to military officials without bail for allegedly 'deserting the Army'. According to a report in the New York Daily Star, Rowe was arrested on Monday night at a county Route 47 residence in Oneonta. Rowe was arrested on a 'military warrant' that Devlin said was brought to the attention of deputies by the Oneonta Police Department, who received information from a source outside of that department.

Iranian Students Engage Cyberwar Videogame to Counter U.S. Assault on Iran
An Iranian student group recently unveiled a new videogame that simulates an attempt to rescue two Iranian nuclear experts kidnapped by the U.S. military and then held in Iraq and Israel, reports various news agencies. 'The Rescue The Nuke Scientist' videogame, designed by the Union of Students Islamic Assoc., is a response to a U.S.-based company's 'Assault on Iran' game (Kuma Reality Games), which depicts an American attack on an Iranian nuclear facility, says its creators.

CIA misled Britain over rendition plan
The CIA misled British intelligence chiefs over the arrest and treatment of terrorist suspects who were the subjects of rendition to Guantanamo Bay, an Intelligence and Security Committee report to the Prime Minister warned. It saidthe deception threatens to undermine confidence in the exchange of intelligence between the CIA and MI6.

South Korean hostage body recovered
Afghan officials have confirmed the Taliban killing of one of the 23 South Korean hostages and have recovered the bullet-riddled body. 'Yes, we've recovered the body. It had 10 bullet holes. It was found some 15km from a paved road between Qara Bagh and Giru districts,' Alishah Ahmadzai, the head of police in Ghazni province, said on Wednesday.

UK to get 'unified' border force
Britain is to get a 'unified border force' to boost the fight against terrorism, the prime minister has said. A 'highly visible' uniformed force would bring together immigration and Customs officers, Gordon Brown said. He also announced a review of allowing intercept evidence in court, and plans to double from 28 days the time police can hold suspects without charge.

US missile defence system set for UK
Peace campaigners accused the Government of being underhand, and of turning part of the UK into a prime military target by allowing an RAF base in Yorkshire to become part of the US missile defence system. The Defence Secretary, Des Browne, announced in a written statement to the Commons that he had accepted an American request to use RAF Menwith Hill, near Harrogate, as part of the system. He said it would help to "build future protection for our citizens."

Fingerprints Required to Visit Europe after 2009
Under new procedures for the EU visas that take effect in 2009, those willing to visit the European Union will have to give fingerprint impression for this purpose, Italian Interior Minister Giuliano Amato told Corriere della Sera. In Italy, the most numerous category of illegal immigrants is formed by visitors with short-term visas staying after their expiration. The visas with fingerprints will solve this problem, the minister explained.

FBI Proposes Building Network of U.S. Informants
The FBI is taking cues from the CIA to recruit thousands of covert informants in the United States as part of a sprawling effort to boost its intelligence capabilities. According to a recent unclassified report to Congress, the FBI expects its informants to provide secrets about possible terrorists and foreign spies, although some may also be expected to aid with criminal investigations, in the tradition of law enforcement confidential informants.

Libyans outraged at Bulgaria pardon
The families of hundreds of Libyan children with HIV have condemned Bulgaria's 'recklessness' for pardoning and releasing six health workers accused of infecting their children. An association of the families said Libya should deport all Bulgarian nationals, cut ties with the country and demanded the six be re-arrested by Interpol.

PM's attempts to snub Bush 'backfired after speech'
Gordon Brown intended to snub President George Bush until at least September, before subtle attempts to distance himself from Washington backfired a fortnight ago, a senior diplomatic source said last night. According to the source, no plan had been made for the Prime Minister to visit Washington before Lord Malloch Brown, the former UN deputy secretary general and new foreign minister, gave an interview in which he said Mr Brown and Mr Bush would no longer be 'joined together at the hip like the Blair-Bush relationship'.

Cuba has opened up its heart, resources and a unique educational institution with the goal of revolutionizing medical care for those who no longer had any hope, stated the Rev. Lucius Walker, the leader of Pastors for Peace, referring to the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM). It was necessary for 28 members of the U.S. Congress to intervene in order to ensure it was possible for U.S. students to continue to be part of this program.
